Kazakh, German presidents discuss bilateral ties during talks in Berlin

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Tuesday held one-on-one talks with his German counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, to discuss bilateral ties.

According to the Kazakh presidential press service Akorda, Tokayev described Germany as a key strategic partner for Kazakhstan in Europe, saying bilateral cooperation is based on mutual trust, respect and shared interests.

He noted that next year will mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Germany, highlighting progress in bilateral cooperation over the past three decades.

Steinmeier praised Tokayev’s personal contribution to expanding cooperation between Astana and Berlin and expressed confidence that the visit would give fresh momentum to bilateral ties and elevate them to a new level, according to Akorda.

Tokayev arrived in Germany on Monday for talks aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between Astana and Berlin.

He is expected to hold talks with Chancellor Friedrich Merz, attend a technology business forum in Munich and take part in a business forum in Berlin.
