Saudi Arabia condemns Iranian attacks on Jordan, calls for immediate halt

Saudi Arabia on Wednesday strongly condemned Iran’s “continued brutal and unjustified” attacks on Jordan, renewing its solidarity with the kingdom and its people.

In a statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said the Iranian attacks constitute a “blatant violation” of international law and the principles of good neighborliness.

The ministry stressed the importance of an “immediate halt to Iran’s blatant attacks” on Jordan and other countries in the region, and called for “serious steps toward achieving security and stability” for the region and its peoples.

Earlier on Wednesday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it targeted a US military base in Jordan with ballistic missiles.

It said its retaliatory attacks against the US would continue until US aggression ends.

Jordan’s armed forces said that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 18 ballistic missiles launched from Iran.

Separately, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces destroyed five Iranian crude oil carriers after the IRGC targeted a US Navy warship with ballistic missiles twice over the past two days.

The developments came amid heightened tensions between Iran and the US over the Strait of Hormuz, despite the signing of a memorandum to reopen the strategic waterway as a prelude to a wider peace deal.
