German police made several arrests after youths threw Molotov cocktails and stones at officers during unrest in Berlin's Maerkisches Viertel neighborhood late Sunday, public broadcaster RBB reported.
A group of over 100 youths had gathered in the area, setting off fireworks and pushing burning trash bins into the street, RBB said. Two Molotov cocktails and stones were thrown from the crowd toward police, but no injuries were reported.
Officers detained at least 4 individuals, including a 14-year-old and others suspected of hurling firebombs or of breach of the peace, according to RBB.
The situation later calmed, with only smaller groups of young people remaining at the scene, police told the broadcaster.
The unrest followed similar incidents the previous night on Halloween, when youths repeatedly targeted Berlin public transport buses in the same neighborhood with eggs and fireworks, interrupting service.
Nationwide student protests against government policies took place Saturday, with most demonstrations remaining peaceful. Isolated violence was reported after dark in Berlin, Frankfurt and Hamburg.
