Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday called on China and Indonesia to strengthen all-round cooperation and create greater development synergy to jointly address growing risks and challenges, state-run Xinhua News reported.
Wang made the remarks while co-chairing the first meeting of the China-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue Mechanism with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono in Jakarta.
Wang said the international environment was facing growing turbulence and uncertainty, with unilateralism and hegemonic practices affecting global security and development.
He said stronger strategic communication and cooperation between China and Indonesia, as major developing countries, carried significance beyond bilateral relations.
China has always attached importance to Indonesia in its diplomacy, particularly its neighborhood diplomacy, Wang said, expressing Beijing’s readiness to deepen mutual understanding and support.
Sugiono said China’s development had created significant opportunities for the world, particularly neighboring countries such as Indonesia.
He stressed the two countries’ closely intertwined interests and the importance of coordination as Indonesia pursues its development strategies.
Sugiono also reaffirmed Indonesia’s adherence to the one-China policy and support for China’s reunification.
The two sides agreed to uphold strategic autonomy, support each other’s core interests and begin formulating a China-Indonesia five-year Action Plan for 2027-2031.
They also agreed to deepen cooperation in energy and mineral resources, artificial intelligence, poverty reduction, fisheries and maritime development, while promoting joint development.
On the South China Sea, both sides pledged to fully implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties and work toward an early conclusion of the Code of Conduct.
The second meeting of the dialogue mechanism will be held in China next year.
